Happy Tails: Red has found her forever home!

We are over the moon to announce that Red, our spunky and spirited PomChi girlie, has officially been adopted! Looking at her now as one of the funniest, silliest, and most spirited dogs to ever grace HLCR... It’s hard to imagine where her journey began. Red came to us from a heartbreaking hoarding situation, carrying the weight of a difficult past.

Red’s transformation is a testament to why we do what we do. It wasn’t an overnight success; it was the result of:

• Time and Patience: Providing the extended care that many shelters simply can't offer.

• A Loving Foster Home: A huge thank you to her incredible foster family, who showed her what it means to be safe, cherished, and part of a family.

• Unwavering Support: Because of our supporters, we can give dogs like Red the time they need to heal and let their true personalities…

Luna's 10th Birthday Celebration!

Last week, our girl Luna turned 10, and thanks to some truly wonderful volunteers, she got the birthday outing she deserved. The crew took her to Tomlinson's Feed in Lakeway for an afternoon of shakes, sniffs, and well-earned adoration from everyone she met along the way.

Luna came to us as a cancer survivor with more energy and heart than dogs half her age, and watching her spend her birthday surrounded by people who love her was a reminder of why this work matters so much. We are endlessly grateful to the volunteers who show up for our dogs, not just on the big days, but every single day.

Luna is still available for adoption. If you've been thinking about it, her birthday feels like a pretty good sign. Learn more at hlcr.org/adoptable-dogs/luna

Hi, it's me, Fang! And I have something really important to tell you.

Not too long ago, I couldn't stand up. My back legs just wouldn't work, and honestly, the world felt really small from where I was lying. I didn't know what was going to happen to me. But then, something changed. Actually, a lot of somethings changed. There was surgery, and then a whole lot of rest (crate rest, which between you and me, is not exactly my favorite thing). Then came physical therapy, which was hard, and a wheelchair that actually made me feel pretty cool. Through all of it, the people around me just kept showing up. Day after day. Patiently, lovingly, stubbornly refusing to give up on me. And today? Today I stood up on my own to eat breakfast. It feels pretty awesome! I know I'm just a dog... But I also know that what happened to me did not happen by accident. It happened because people…

Our darling Luna turns 10 next week 🥳

She's a husky mix who survived cancer, has more energy than some dogs half her age, and has somehow figured out how to open doors and scale fences. She is, in every sense, a force of nature.

She loves other dogs and cats, rides happily in the car, and is house and crate trained. She does best with an owner who can give her a secure space when unsupervised, because this girl will absolutely use her talents if given the chance. She also might be part mountain goat.

Ten years old, cancer survivor, still going strong. Luna just needs someone who's ready to meet her where she is and love her for exactly who she is. Her birthday is next week. It would mean the world to see her spend it in a home of her own.

P.S. Volunteer NOT up for…

When The Vet Says "Take It Easy" But You're Tulip ✨

Remember Tulip, the senior huahua with huge mysterious growth on her belly? Well, we're happy to report it was just a massive hernia! The vet repaired it, spayed her, and now she's living her (almost) best life; and even though he told her to rest and take it easy, Tulip has become an unstoppable force of nature instead. Now she just needs to find the perfect adopter...

Even though she's around ten years old, Miss Tulip still has a lot of life left in her as you can see from the video. www.hlcr.org/adoptable-dogs/tulip

The Foxy Files: Are Walks Safe?

She's small. She's suspicious. And she's got questions. Meet Foxy, the world's most vigilant detective. After a rough start in life, Foxy arrives at HLCR with one mission: survive. But survival means investigating EVERYTHING. That leaf? Very odd. Other dogs? Jury's still out. Baths? WHAT ARE THEY HIDING? Armed with a keen nose, nervous energy, and an unwavering commitment to proceeding with caution, Foxy embarks on the most important investigation of her life: Is the world actually safe? Can humans be trusted? And what's the deal with squirrels anyway?

CASE FILE F-001: Are Walks Safe?

Subject(s): HLCR staff members

Day 1: They keep repeating "walk" and "outside" like these are good things. No clue what it means. Need more intel.

Day 4: They sometimes put cute sweaters on me and place me on a strange surface called 'grass'. As weird as that is, they do bring me back every time.…

Love these kinds of stories!! Such a clever way to describe a rescue pup, what they might go through, and how HLCR works to turn their lives around

New Diamond: Tulip

Hey everyone! Say hello to Tulip, a sweet senior gal who came to us needing some help. She's got a great temperament and loves people, but she also came to us with a pretty big problem, as you'll see in the pics below.

Tulip is around 10 years old and one of the friendliest little chihuahuas you'll ever meet. We're getting her checked out by our vet to see what we're dealing with and what the best plan is to get her feeling better. She's comfortable and in good spirits while we wait for answers, which is encouraging.

This girl deserves to spend her golden years happy and healthy, and we're going to do everything we can to make that happen. We'll keep you posted as we learn more about what's going on with Tulip. In the meantime, she's getting lots of love and care while we figure out…

New Diamond: Fang

Hey everyone! Meet Fang, our newest little rescue. Bet you can't guess where he got his name...

This little guy was found on the side of the road, unable to use his back legs. A contact at Lampasas Animal Control reached out to us desperate for help because Fang was running out of time there. We're pretty sure he got hit by a car and has some spinal damage.

We've got him set up with a specialty appointment at Austin Veterinary Emergency & Specialty later this month to figure out what's going on with his back and what we can do for him. Right now he's confined to a kennel to keep him from doing more damage, and yeah, he drags his back legs around. But you know what? Fang is so sweet and chatty, always looking for attention and love.

I have zero doubt that once he's healed up,…
