The Link: Unraveling the National Web of Animal and Interpersonal Violence
Most people feel a pull to intervene when faced with acts of cruelty toward animals, but the alarming reality is that less than 0.01% of animal abuse cases in the United States are formally reported to law enforcement.

The Heart of HLCR

The Work That Matters
Katie never imagined that delivering mail would transform her life. For a long time, she drove the same route, dropping packages and letters at familiar stops. One of those stops was Highland Lakes Canine Rescue. During her deliveries, she would catch glimpses of the work happening within where dogs were being cared for, loved, and healed. When she found herself at a crossroads, searching for something more meaningful, she took a chance.

In Defense of the Large Dog
Big dogs get a bad rap, and honestly, it makes no sense. Walk through any animal shelter and you’ll notice a pattern: the small dogs go fast. The medium dogs go fairly fast. And the big dogs? The big dogs sit there, wagging hopefully, watching family after family walk past them toward the nearest available Chihuahua. It’s a little heartbreaking, and it is also, we would argue, a massive mistake. So today, I’m here to make the case for the big dogs.

But here's the thing: your dog has their own unique love language, and it's far more meaningful than anything Hallmark could dream up.

Race Against the Polar Night
Deep in the winter of 1925, a quiet terror settled over Nome, Alaska. Children were falling gravely ill from a diphtheria outbreak, and the town's only doctor watched his antitoxin supply vanish. What followed became one of the most legendary acts of bravery in American history.
