In Memory of Spike

We are heartbroken to share that one of our beloved rescue dogs, Spike, passed away due to injuries resulting from a motor vehicle accident. Spike was returning to our shelter from a vet visit with one of our team members when they were hit on US 281. Spike suffered major, life-ending injuries, and our staff member is currently receiving medical care.
Spike was a shining example of the resilience and joy that rescue dogs bring into our lives. He was a small dog with a big heart, and even bigger personality, who made a lasting impression on everyone who met him. We will miss him dearly.
We are grateful for the swift response of the local Sheriff Depts., Highway Patrol and rescue agencies, as well as the incredible teams at Hope Animal Clinic and Violet Crown for their care and support in such a difficult moment.
We will honor Spike’s memory by continuing to give other dogs like him the love, care and second chances they deserve. Run free, sweet Spike. You were so loved.
14th Annual Putts 4 Pups
This year's tournament was filled with great golf, contagious laughter, and the biggest hearts we've ever seen. Every stroke on the course brought us one step closer to our mission of helping more dogs transition from shelter life to the loving forever homes they deserve.

A huge shoutout to our amazing sponsors who make this tournament possible – your support truly helps turn our dream of "happy dogs in forever homes" into reality. And let's hear it for our tournament winners who dominated the leaderboard! Of course, whether you finished first or just had the most fun in the golf cart, every single participant was a winner in our book. Thank you for making every swing count and for proving that when good people come together for a great cause, magic happens.

Diamond Feature: Henry

Henry was a just a pup in a hoarding situation. Kiwi, who also emerged from the same environment, had a spark of curiosity. But Henry's hesitancy is no surprise, coming from a place without consistent, positive human interaction. Without patient handling, dogs like Henry can often miss the chance of adoption during the first meeting. That’s where our Diamonds in the Ruff program steps in! Here, he’ll have the space, time and support to learn at his own pace, rebuilding trust with the help of our dedicated volunteers and staff. Though we can’t erase his past, we’re committed to giving Henry the tools he needs to embrace a brighter future—one filled with a family who will see the gentle boy he truly is!

Volunteer Update
It's hot out there, guys! Be aware and take care of yourself by hydrating, hydrating and more hydrating when you are outside. When it's too hot, the dogs will be indoors in the afternoons. So if you sign up for an afternoon walking shift, you may need to just play a bit in an outside yard, snuggle somebody inside or you can bathe the doggies. If a dog is seriously in need of exercise the techs can fix you up for short walks, but be sure to take water with you.
Correction from May Newsletter! The kids' group that came out and worked was from Lake Travis Middle School, not Marble Falls. We don't want this to diminish their compassion. This group comes out every spring and does work around the shelter and some have asked to become regular HLCR volunteers. It's a win-win for our dogs and it means so much!
The techs appreciate everyone coming on time to start their shift. That way, they only have to explain once and everyone can get on with doing what they need to do.
