The Great Escape Starts Small
Every great rescue story starts with understanding—of course, a really good fence doesn’t hurt, either. We meet escape artists all the time. From fence-jumpers to door-darters, it's common to find ex-escape artists in area shelters. These dogs aren't trying to be difficult. It's one of the most common behaviors we see in many strays.

Dogs feel the need to escape for a variety of reasons: boredom, overstimulation or lack of bonding to their new surroundings. Some can even be driven by fear, such as separation anxiety. Maybe excitement for connection or new stimulation for fun, especially if their last escape was rewarding to them (a playful chase). The tough part is discovering a dog's individual why behind their escape attempts.
At our rescue, threshold training at doors, gates and fence lines make this process a little easier. When a pup is at least consistently trained at a basic level that a door cannot be rushed through, it can often create a manageable and real starting place to address the issue. Especially being in an environment that isn't natural to them. There's no place like a home! Your support at thresholds matter. When staff handle the training and volunteers reinforce the boundaries, those small actions before and after dog walks create secure, happy dogs less likely to escape and ready for their future homes!
Suds & Snuggles
We’re sending a big thank you to the wonderful middle school group from Marble Falls ISD who returned for another impactful day of service. This group jumped right in, helping us knock out a full lineup of much-needed dog baths and giving our pups exactly what they needed—lots of play and cuddles. Their presence truly helped us turn the day around. While they made memories, so did our puppies. Socialization is so impactful on their behavioral development. Thank you for choosing to visit our dogs, making our rescue a little more fun!

Diamond Feature: Betty Lyn

This gentle mastiff mix arrived from New Braunfels Humane Society underweight, heartworm positive and with digestive sensitivities. Her post-spay complications suggest that she’s likely been through several pregnancies. Mothers like Betty Lyn are often overlooked and at-risk in shelters, especially as a large dog. Under our care, Betty Lyn is gaining healthy weight and preparing for heartworm treatment. The life ahead for her will be about soft places to land, peaceful routines and finally being cherished for who she is.
Diamond Feature: Spike

Spike was found in Granite Shoals in heartbreaking condition—so matted you could barely see his eyes, entangled with sticks and rocks. Whether he was dumped or lost, it’s clear he hadn’t known proper care for some time. After many caring hands, Spike has found his way to us! He’s already received a much-needed grooming and will be treated for severe paw infections, hair loss and irritation due to an unknown skin condition on his lower back. We'll be getting veterinary consultation to figure out what's exactly going on. In the meantime, he's going through basic treatments to kick-start his recovery, including a much-needed medicated bath regimen.

Friendly Reminder! When waiting for kennel personnel to harness up a dog for you, stay at least 10 feet away from their fence. Do not call or try to get the attention of pups in the pen. This is part of the training the techs do with the dogs. Thank you for walking the dogs, it makes their whole day!
