A Positive Update & Special Request For Flynn the Brave 💪

If you have been following along, you know Flynn's story is not a simple one. But today we have something to share that everyone needs to stop and read.

Flynn was one of 49 dogs rescued from a horrific hoarding situation. Of those 49, six came directly to HLCR needing serious intervention. Flynn was among them. And while his five companions have since found their forever homes, Flynn is still with us. He's the last one standing.

When Flynn arrived, he was a ghost of a dog. Terrified of everything. Terrified of everyone. Courageous for his siblings, he wanted nothing to do with human hands, human voices, or human presence in any form. For a dog who looks like a tiny golden retriever, with a face that makes you want to scoop him up immediately, the distance he kept was heartbreaking. So we didn't push. We didn't rush. We let Flynn set the pace.

Our staff and volunteers have been working with him slowly and patiently, day after day, showing up and asking nothing in return. Just presence. Just consistency. Just the gentle message that the world doesn't have to be as scary as he learned it was.

And now Flynn is starting to believe us.

For the first time, he is taking treats through the fence. He is not running when people are nearby. When other dogs are around, he lingers. He watches. He is curious in a way he simply was not before. He hangs out inside the kennel building; still orbiting but slowly closing the gap.

These might sound like small things, but for Flynn, they're enormous. Trust is not something he was ever taught to have. Every bit of it he finds now, he is finding for the very first time. We are honored to be the ones helping him find it, and while we don't know exactly when Flynn will be ready for his next chapter, we do know he's on his way. And we're going to be right here with him every step of the way.

Our very special request for Flynn the Brave is a foster willing to step up to the plate. Flynn really needs a calm, relaxed environment so his nervous system can relax. Experience with fearful avoidant dogs is preferred, and bonus points if you already have a confident and calm dog in the home to help him build trust. This will be some work, but the rewards are immeasurable to give this little dog the fighting chance he deserves for a happy and healthy life.
