About
Meet Tailgate! This precious Great Pyrenees boy came to HLCR by way of Lampasas Animal Shelter after he and his sister were found stray at just 6 months old. Both pups were severely underweight and had noticeable trouble with their back legs. While his sister found her forever home, Tailgate stayed behind, quietly waiting for his turn. Recognizing his need for specialized medical care, Lampasas reached out, and we were more than happy to welcome this gentle guy into our pack!
Our partner veterinarian confirmed that Tailgate has mild hip dysplasia and luxating patellas in both back legs. Because he’s still growing, he will need corrective knee surgery once he reaches full adulthood. In the meantime, Tailgate is on a specialized nutrition plan to help him gain healthy weight and muscle, paired with gentle, controlled exercise to slowly build strength in preparation for his future procedures.
Health Status
✔ Neutered
✔ Up to Date Vaccines
✔ Microchipped
✔ Treated for Parasites
✔ Heartworm Negative
Tailgate has mild hip dysplasia and bilateral luxating patellas (slipping kneecaps) that currently affect his hind leg mobility, but because he is still growing, his corrective surgeries are deferred until he reaches full skeletal maturity. His long term prognosis is excellent for enjoying a comfortable, active, and pain-free life once healed.
