Opal

6/7/26 | Small (0-24 lbs) | Female

About

Opal was one of 23 small dogs removed from home where, unlike most hoarding cases, the dogs were clean, healthy, and loved. Opal is shy rather than unfriendly. Approach her and she slips under the furniture, but sit down and ignore her, and she will hop onto the couch beside you and rest her paws on your leg. Reach for her and she is gone, which is a polite way of saying she prefers to make the first move.

Opal is good with cats and warms up quickly to dogs, though pushy ones unsettle her. A calm, confident canine sibling and a quiet adult home without young children will suit her best. She sleeps peacefully in a crate at night and should be crated when unsupervised. She is not yet housetrained, is still learning to walk on a harness, and is too young to be spayed. Eye contact, loud noises, baths, and paw handling still worry her, so her ideal match offers patience and the good sense to look the other way when she sits down beside you.
