We are saddened to announce Brittany's departure from Highland Lakes Canine Rescue. Her leadership has been instrumental in reshaping our shelter and mission, saving hundreds of canine lives in the process. Brittany wanted to share a few words with you all:

Letter From Executive Director Brittany Osbourn

Dear HLCR Family,

As I sit down to write this farewell letter, it's difficult to conjure what I want to say. Highland Lakes Canine Rescue means more to me than I can express in words. It's not just a shelter; it's a haven, a sanctuary where both people and dogs are given the space to shine and reach their full potential. Over the past five years, two spent as the Executive Director, I've witnessed countless stories of transformation and resilience that have touched my heart deeply.

Any of you who know me personally are familiar with my soft spot for gimps—the dogs who may be medically or emotionally challenged but have an incredible capacity to love and be loved. Having worked in the public shelter system prior to HLCR and witnessed the poor treatment of this class of rescue dog, I had a vision of what a shelter could and should be: a place where vulnerable and needy dogs thrive, find healing, and ultimately, a forever home. I'm proud to say that Highland Lakes Canine Rescue has seen this vision to fruition, and will continue to do so under new leadership.

It's bittersweet to say goodbye, as this shelter has been my home, my passion, and my purpose for so long. However, I know in my heart that it is time for someone else to step in, bring new ideas, and lead HLCR toward its blossoming potential. I have complete confidence that our incredible staff, board members, volunteers, and supporters will continue the essential work we've started together, and grow it into something far more beautiful than it already is today.

I want to express my deepest gratitude to each and every one of you for your kindness, friendship, and support. This journey has been nothing short of extraordinary, and I will carry my experiences and the love of this community with me wherever I go. You will all be dearly missed, but I know that the future holds even greater things for Highland Lakes Canine Rescue.

Set your hearts ablaze!

Brittany Osbourn

U.S. National Tour Coming to HLCR

We have an amazing fundraising opportunity coming up for our dogs and we want you to be a part of it! Jordan's Way is a national US tour famous for their livestream fundraising for shelters and rescues across the country. They chose our shelter as one of their next destinations!

VOLUNTEERS: You're invited! We need a minimum of 20 people there. Find it on SignupGenius under the email janelleb@hlcr.org. Be prepared games and challenges in an effort to promote donations. To learn more, check out Jordan's Way's website.

If you can't participate, share and notify your friends and family about the livestream so they can watch and donate. The more participation, the better turnout for our precious dogs! Thank you to everybody that already signed up - you guys are amazing.

The livestream will be on our Facebook page. Donations towards our goal for HLCR dogs can be made early or during the livestream here.

Volunteer Update

Wow! What a month April was! Our pups got to go to lots of events and meet lots of nice new people, but they need more!  Our techs are extra busy with all of the puppies we have now so give them a little leeway in getting the dogs harnessed up for you. We still need more of our volunteers to come out and walk and/or just spend some time with the dogs.

More volunteers are needed for our May Events coming up:

May 15th Jordan's Way Fundraiser at the shelter: It's gonna be lots of fun and will be online live raising money for the pups. We will need AT LEAST 20 Volunteers for this! If you can't come out to volunteer please plan to tune in the the live-broadcast to support the shelter on our Facebook page. We'll be sending more details that you can share with friends and relatives.
